How do I arrange a worldwide trademark protection for a brand name and/or a logo? And what is this going to cost me the first time and for maintenance?

Dennis, I have done many trademark registration through the US Patent & Trademark Office. Generally speaking, I can accomplish the initial registration in a couple of hours. Add my hourly fees to the cost of registration - either $275 or $325 - and you can have it registered for under a thousand dollars. For more information, check out the Trademark FAQs. This is US Registration only. Getting international protection is considerably more complex; however, there is rarely any reason to get a trademark in Tunisia or Lichtenstein unless you are planning on doing business there. Chas

OK Charles, interesting, but I need some more. It's about a web application that we plan to roll out soon. – Dennis Jan 26 at 9:38

Dennis:

First question that you need to answer for an attorney is what are your business goals here? Your "worldwide" registration may not meet those goals or may be too expensive. Seek out an attorney with a lot of experience in domestic and international trademarks. Talk with them about your goals. They should be able to provide you with realistic, set prices, but also with advice on the steps you can take to reach your business goals in the most economical way.

Thanks for your comment Paul. The business goals are big, of course. But serious, the application can be used worldwide, so why not protect it likewise? The other option is no protection at all and be the best. Part of my question was: what is this going to cost and I still do not have a clue, $1,000 for US and EUR1,000 for Europe? But I'm in contact with a party now and this might shine a light on it. If not I'll be back to you. Thanks, Dennis – Dennis Feb 3 at 9:46
